KS 3/4 Food Technology

FoodLab is a series of challenging activities exploring the human senses and methods of sensory analysis in the food industry.
Racing against the clock, students complete tasks introducing the language of sensory descriptors. Also includes a Star Diagram which students can use to record and compare the sensory attributes of products.
 
Our 5 senses - touch, taste, hearing, smell and sight.
Our sense of taste - sweet, salt, sour and bitter.
Describing words - sensory, attitudinal and hedonic descriptors.
Sensory descriptors - texture, appearance, flavour and aroma.
Taste tests - sensory analysis in the food industry.
Star diagram - comparing the sensory characteristics of products.
Balanced plate - identifying the 5 food groups.
