The Privacy of Your Personal Information and Meat & Education

At Meat & Education we take the privacy and security of your personal information very seriously. We will never sell your data to third parties. How we use your information and take care of it is explained here.

Who we are:

The Meat & Education programme is sponsored by the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) and delivered by the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF). Your information will be held by the BNF and AHDB.

What personal information we collect and why:

When you subscribe to our newsletter, the personal information we collect will be your email address to enable the BNF to send you information via the newsletter.

When you complete the contact us form, the personal information we collect will be your email address to enable the BNF to respond to your enquiry.

If you sign up for a training course or opportunity your details are stored on Eventbrite or SurveyMonkey and are then used to notify you further about the CPD or event, send resources and complete attendance lists (name and school only). Downloaded details are stored securely on the BNF network and are then deleted from Eventbrite/SurveyMonkey and the BNF network within one month of the event.

Like most websites, ours uses ‘cookies’ to help us make our website, and your user experience, better. Cookies mean that a website will remember you. They are small text files that sites transfer to your computer/tablet/smartphone and make interacting with a website faster and easier. There are more details in our Cookie Policy.

We will also track the Internet Protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer to the Internet; computer connection information such as browser type and version; and time zone setting, browser plug-in types and versions; operating system; download history, which we sometimes aggregate with similar information from other contacts to improve the navigation and services we provide.

If we wish to use your information for any other purpose we will communicate this with you in advance.

How we will keep your information safe:

We ensure that there are appropriate technical controls in place to protect your personal information. For example we use encryption and we store data within AHDB’s secure network and cloud environment. Both of these are independently audited. Personal details provided when booking a training event or expressing interest in CPD are stored securely on BNF’s network and are destroyed within one month of the event.

Where we use third party suppliers or partners to collect or process personal data we put a contract or data sharing agreement in place that sets out our expectations and requirements, especially regarding how they manage the personal data and fully comply with all applicable UK Data Protection legislation.

What third parties will be involved:

Meat & Education use a third party supplier (Your Mailing List Provider) to send out our newsletter and Eventbrite/SurveyMonkey for training and CPD.

We will never sell your personal information to third parties and we will not release your personal information to any company outside of BNF or AHDB for their mailing or marketing purposes.

Third country transfers:

The BNF and AHDB own systems and storage are within the European Economic Area (EEA). Some of our suppliers or partners process personal information on our behalf outside the EEA, where a recognised data security protocol is in place between the EU/UK and the third country (eg the EU-US Privacy Shield). A contract or data sharing agreement is always put in place, setting out our requirements regarding the handling of personal information.

How long we will keep your data:

For the Meat & Education newsletter, we will retain your personal information until you choose to unsubscribe from the Meat & Education newsletter using the unsubscribe link in every email we send you. Personal details provided for CPD, training events and other opportunities will be securely destroyed within one month of the event.

For the Contact Us form, the personal information captured in order to respond to your queries is deleted after 6 months. f you contact us via the Contact Us form or email, we may keep a record of that correspondence.

Your Rights:

By law you have certain rights over your personal data that we hold – see for guidance on your rights. You have the right to ask us to correct any errors, the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and the right to object (based on your specific situation) to the BNF’s processing, and the right to erasure where the personal data is no longer necessary for the purpose it was originally collected. To enquire about exercising any of these rights please contact us via the Contact Us page. We may need to verify your identity before implementing your request.
